NYC Common Sense released the following statement in advance of tonight’s NYCHA in Your Neighborhood Forum:
“Almost nine months in and this administration is just now getting around to what should have been done on Day One: Prioritizing the needs of its own tenants. Showing up now to listening to the complaints of NYCHA residents is a day late and a dollar short when their woes – from broken heaters and vermin infestations to mold and other dangerous conditions – are well documented, as is the disgraceful year-plus-long wait for a long list of necessary repairs to be addressed.
Instead of focusing on its own responsibilities as the largest landlord in the five boroughs, City Hall has focused on villainizing private property owners and advancing its agenda of socializing housing. A neighborhood forum is useless without a clear, credible plan to address NYCHA’s long-standing problems.
NYCHA residents deserve answers and accountability, not a photo op.”
